Van Common Announces His Debut London Show

Van Common is the solo moniker of Amsterdam’s multi-instrumentalist and producer Sebastiaan van Ravenhorst and he plays his debut London show at O2 Academy2 Islington on 13 February 2020.

As a true hermit, the young man retreated to a small beach house in the southwest of the Netherlands. D.I.Y. was his credo: writing, singing, playing all instruments and recording, everything done by himself. The result is an apt introduction to his mix of dream-pop, shoegaze and glo-fi sounds. Boasting infectious melodies, his songs haunt you like a ghost to take over your mind completely. And that’s Van Common’s intention: to crossover from the subconscious to the conscious.

His first EP in 2019, ‘Time Is A Dream’, prompted Clash to describe the track ‘Moonlight Blue’ as “a piece of gilded indie pop with a swooning almost pastoral feel.  Reminiscent of Real Estate or early Beach Fossils, it’s got a carefree vibe that is completely unique.”  He says in the early days, US indie band Wild Nothing was a big motivator, everything dream-pop, but now is inspired by more experimental and electronic indie. Another song ‘Ghost’ was nominated as Song Of The Year by Dutch radio station 3RM who also said he was one of their 12 Talents of the Year.
