University of Greenwich new shirt sponsor of Charlton Athletic Women

The university, which already has a long-standing relationship with Charlton Athletic and its award-winning Community Trust, will be the first ever shirt-sponsor for the newly professional women’s team.

University Vice-Chancellor, Professor Jane Harrington, said: “We have a brilliant partnership with Charlton which has strengthened and deepened over the years. This opportunity to celebrate women’s football is a wonderful way to further build on our joint work.

“Our two organisations are at the heart of our community, with strong links in the region. We have a shared belief in the power of sport and shared commitment to inclusivity and diversity in all that we do. I’m really looking forward to watching the women’s team go from strength-to-strength next season.”

The existing partnership enables the university, club and trust to share expertise, research and facilities, giving sports science and coaching students at the University of Greenwich opportunities to work and volunteer alongside players and professional football club staff.

Internships are also available for event management, finance, marketing and media students and there are regular opportunities for university students and staff to access tickets to games at The Valley.

Charlton’s Commercial Director, Wayne Mumford, said: “With new staff, new facilities, new players to be revealed and now a new sponsor, it is an exciting time for Charlton Athletic Women.

“Our owner has a clear vision to grow the women’s team and we’re pleased to be able to partner with the University of Greenwich, who wanted to be part of that growth of the team.”

The new shirt will be revealed next week.
