TACKLING PERIOD POVERTY AT THE MALL WOOD GREEN

The Mall Wood Green is tackling period poverty by offering free period products to anyone in need, who can visit the Guest Lounge on the first floor and ask for a discreet “package from Florence”.

A 2017 survey by Plan International showed that 1 in 10 girls had been unable to afford period products. This becomes more acute during the school holidays, where access to help and resources is more difficult.

“We know that periods can sometimes take people by surprise, and we would like to encourage guests to come along to our Guest Lounge and collect a free, discreet package from Florence, no questions asked,” says Marketing Manager, Catriona Baillie. “We believe that period products should be available for everyone and would like to spread the word throughout our local community.”

In order to raise awareness of the issue, The Mall has put up posters in its Freshen Up toilet facilities on the first floor of the centre.
