Resy’s ‘The Women of Food’ Returns to London for Fourth Year

This June, Resy’s The Women of Food campaign returns for a fourth year to honour the women who power restaurants. Resy launched The Women of Food in 2018 to celebrate and illuminate women-led restaurants and to put attention on the systemic inequities for women pursuing careers in the restaurant industry.

At its core, The Women of Food believes that behind every great restaurant is a woman, and these trailblazing women-owned restaurants are testament to that.
When it comes to women in the hospitality industry, the most recent count shows just 17% of professional chefs in the UK are female, and of the 57% of females in the industry, one in four are in the most junior roles, 57% in part-time ones (ONS, 2022).
“The Women of Food is central to Resy’s mission, to be a platform that champions voices and issues important to the restaurant industry” says Chandler Stroud, Resy’s Head of Marketing. “Resy’s women-led restaurants will be at the forefront of everything we do – editorial guides, interviews, events – with the goal of driving diners to them and raising awareness of the gender gap that continues to persist.”
As a continuation of The Women of Food series, Resy’s tribute to the women who make restaurants around the world, select female chefs from Los Angeles to London will host intimate dinners at their restaurants featuring menus inspired by the women they hold dearly, from mentors to colleagues, farmers to makers.

In London, chef Selin Kiazim and sommelier Laura Christie of Oklava in Shoreditch, will serve a special, one-night-only menu on June 28 that spotlights all the women who make it happen – from front of house to back of house.

Selin Kiazam, Chef at Oklava said, “There is a long way to go still but there are plenty of operators who are trying and successfully running a different, more inclusive kind of restaurant. There are reasons to be optimistic.”
