Olympic legends join the fun and games at the official Team GB Fan Zone

The spirit of the Olympics has returned to London following the opening of the official Team GB fan zone at Westfield London in Shepherd’s Bush by double Olympic medal winner Fatima Whitbread MBE.

The former world javelin champion was joined by Team GB mascot Pride, and Phil Hall, joint managing director of Ocean Outdoor which is hosting the fan zone in Westfield Square for the duration of the Games.

Declaring the zone open, Fatima said: “We’re seeing the best in world sport coming together on the world stage. The Olympics is all about bringing the world together as one, in unity and diversity.”

The fan zone is free to enter for the next 15 days, offering families a range of sporting and fitness activities, competitions and close up encounters with athletes and special guests. There is also a viewing area for fans to relax on deck chairs or in boats to watch the Tokyo Games as they happen on a large pop-up screen. Olympics coverage is provided daily by the BBC.

The star line-up for Super Saturday July 31, includes:

Train with an Olympian – a chance for budding young Olympians to improve their drills on the children’s mini race track with four times Olympian, Commonwealth Games triple jump gold medal winner and GB athletics coach John Herbert. This session starts at 2.30pm

Olympic legends sprinter Linford Christie OBE and cyclist Joanna Rowsell MBE will also be making guest appearances alongside Sonic the Hedgehog, hosted by SEGA

Visitors can try their hand at SEGA’s Tokyo 2020: The Official Video Game. Gamers can compete against the athletes as their competitions are live streamed the via Twitch on Ocean’s big Westfield Square screen.
Dare devils can scale a 40 metre tall four-person climbing wall hosted by Toyota, with the chance to win a selection of toys and other prizes for those who ascend the fastest. Sport climbing is a new Olympics event.

Birds Eye ambassadors are hosting a photo booth offering discount coupons, Team GB prizes and a draw to win a £500 Westfield London shopping spree for those who share their photos on their chosen social media channels using the #BirdsEyeWestfield.

The zone also includes an installation by Wattbike for virtual cycle races with a competitive leader board, Westfield London’s W12 bar and an ice cream truck.

The fan zone is located in Westfield Square, which is adjacent to Ariel Way, London W12 7HB. Access is via Wood Lane. No pre-booking is required. It is open from 12noon to 6pm until August 8.
