New Lidl in Epsom enters final stages of construction

Lidl GB has announced that construction works for its long-awaited supermarket on Upper High Street, in Epsom, have now begun.

Working with construction firm Adston, the final works at the store are taking place, with a view to opening later this summer. Creating around 40 new jobs when opened, the store will have a sales area of 1,424m² and feature facilities including an in-store bakery, customer toilets and ample parking for both cars and bicycles. In addition, the scheme will deliver 30 apartments above the store with associated parking.

Lidl GB’s Regional Head of Property, Henry Neel, commented: “There’s been much anticipation for this new Lidl store and it’s great that we are now in a position to enter the final stages of construction. We are extremely grateful for all the support that we have received so far and would like to thank everyone for their patience and understanding whilst we enter this next phase of the development.”

The new supermarket forms part of the company’s ongoing £1.3bn investment across the country in 2021 and 2022. Its ongoing success shows no signs of slowing, with the latest Kantar Worldpanel results highlighting Lidl’s increase in sales year on year and market share of 6.2%.
