Nobel Peace Prize winner, Malala Yousafzai celebrating her Oxford University graduation there yesterday.

Malala Yousafzai, the education campaigner who was shot by the Taliban nine years ago, has graduated from Oxford University with a philosophy, politics and economics degree.

She postponed her commencement ceremony due to the pandemic, but headed to Holborn’s fashionable new, modern-Indian restaurant Colonel Saab with her husband Asser Malik and close friends to celebrate the momentous occasion with a dinner of authentic Indian delicacies with a twist.

Colonel Saab owner, Roop Partap Choundhary said: “It was an astonishing moment and a great honour for us at Colonel Saab to host Malala and Asser for her graduation dinner. Long live her legacy.”

Malala signed a copy of Colonel Saab’s menu – attached – saying: “Thank you for the amazing food” and happily posed for photos with the team. The couple had been keen to experience the restaurant – which been making waves in the London dining world – since it opened earlier this month.

Choudhary spent a year traveling India with Karen Anand (Dishoom) speaking to mothers about their home-cooked dishes and their stories to create the restaurant’s menu. The award-winning entrepreneur describes the eatery as a “love letter” to his family and it is named after his father, Manbeer, who was given the honorific name of “Colonel Saab” during his time serving in the Indian Army. Colonel Saab caters breakfast through to dinner seven days a week at the elegant, former Holborn Town Hall.
