On June 10th 2022 London is commemorating Jimi Hendrix with a prestigious Blue Plaque. This new honour is bestowed by the Nubian Jak Community Trust (NJCT), in partnership with Experience Hendrix L.L.C. and the Hard Rock Hotel London. The plaque will be unveiled outside the Hard Rock Hotel formerly known as the Cumberland Hotel, which was the last London residence of Jimi Hendrix.

James Marshall Hendrix better known to the world as Jimi Hendrix, remains an ever present cultural icon in the fabric of life as we know it. Arguably the greatest rock guitarist that ever lived, he was more than a musician, poet and philosopher. London was an important part of his story, where he formed his first rock band, the Jimi Hendrix Experience. With him as the front man they took the music world by storm with Jimi going on to reach the status of rock god.

The blue plaque ceremony is part of a series of activities commemorating Jimi’s time in the capital before his untimely death in 1970. There will be a screening of the documentary Music, Money, Madness… Jimi Hendrix in Maui – which received a Grammy nomination for Best Music Film last year, as well as an exclusive Q&A with Jimi’s sister Janie Hendrix, his producer/engineer Eddie Kramer, and the film’s director John McDermott.

There will also be a roof top performance by Christone “Kingfish” Ingram and a Linda McCartney Hendrix Photo exhibition, as well as an immersive experiential installation involving some rarely seen images of Jimi.
