LOCAL HOUSEBUILDER BRINGS WILDLIFE MINI-MEADOWS INTO GEORGE GRENVILLE ACADEMY

According to The National Trust, it is estimated that 97% of Britain’s wildflower meadows have disappeared in comparison to the 1930s*. To help combat this loss of habitat, local housebuilder Barratt David Wilson Homes is offering pupils at George Grenville Academy located nearby its St Rumbold’s Fields development on Tingewick Road, Buckingham, an opportunity to encourage a variety of wildlife to grow on their school grounds.

Barratt David Wilson North Thames has donated 30 seed bomb kits to the school which contain 22 species of native wildflower seeds and sustainable compost. The seed bomb kits are an alternative way of supporting greater ecological interaction and encouraging children to get back to nature.

Together with the seed bomb kits, a webinar with a horticultural expert will be available on the Barratt Homes YouTube channel to support the planting process for pupils, allowing the children to interact with their activity and learn about the benefits of planting wildlife-friendly flora in the garden.

Karly Williams, Sales and Marketing Director for Barratt David Wilson North Thames, said: ‘With a primary focus on sustainability and ecologically friendly provisions within our St Rumbold’s Fields development, we wanted to donate these seed bomb kits to George Grenville Academy to further support nature in the local area.

“We hope that this activity can bring colour and new life into the outside space of the school and that the children enjoy taking part and learning about the importance of wildlife.”

Mrs Emma Killick, Headteacher at George Grenville Academy, commented: “The pupils really enjoyed learning about wildflowers and the importance of protecting local wildlife. We want to thank Barratt David Wilson Homes for organising this activity, it’s been a fantastic and educational experience for the pupils.”

Coinciding with the start of spring, this campaign targets an easy and safe way of gradually rebuilding these habitats. The seed bombs aim to raise awareness of the simple individual actions that can be taken throughout the year to support local wildlife such as bees and butterflies.

A selection of one, two, three and four bedroom homes are available at Barratt David Wilson North Thames’ St Rumbold’s Fields development in Buckingham with prices starting from £96,500 for a one bedroom apartment.
