LDN UTD and YOP launch “YOP Esports Champs” for London teens

LDN UTD, the first UK eSports organisation to unite with social responsibility, has partnered with leading drinkable yogurt brand YOP to launch the YOP Inter-Borough Esports Championships in collaboration with the Mayor of London. The competition aims to engage London teenagers from all backgrounds in Hackney, Lambeth, Lewisham, and Kingston through the competition. With eSports gaming gaining popularity, events of this kind might just prove to be beneficial for local teens and provide them an opportunity to learn more about the nitty-gritty of this field.

LDN UTD uses its profile and position in the esports community in partnership with the Mayor of London to raise awareness and funds around the most important issues in the world today, and will also partner with outreach groups, including the Rio Ferdinand Foundation, Wicker Charity, and Kingston Race and Equalities Council. It expects to see over 80 teenagers take part in the YOP ESport Champs.

YOP will assist LDN UTD with workshops and provide participants with the broader skills for working in esports, on topics including public speaking, video production/editing and social media management. Ultimately providing local teens with the support to develop skills that could make a difference for their future development. The brand will also provide its drinkable yoghurts to local gaming fans and run competitions offering consoles.

Each workshop will be delivered by academics from Salford University, Staffordshire University London, University of East London, or Morley College Chelsea, in tandem with industry professionals from esports organisations such as Fnatic, Gfinity, Blast, Manchester City FC, and Leyton Orient Football Club.

Oliver Weingarten, Founder and CEO of LDN UTD said: “From our first discussions it was clear that LDN UTD and YOP were very much aligned on our values and messaging to support the esports community. We are both looking to bring about positive change through education and esports and having a partner who shares a common goal will enable us to reach more people in the community.”

Joanna Goodman, Yoplait UK Head of Marketing said: “We are committed to championing positive nutrition and supporting teens to live their passions and drive positive change. We’ve been drawn in by the work done by LDN UTD to help address knife crime in London, isolation as a result of lockdown and racism, participation in sport, nutrition, and diversity. We’re looking forward to supporting them further starting with the YOP Esports Champs this month as a platform to meaningfully engage teens with a common passion point.”
