A short guide for staycations in Scotland

The COVID-19 pandemic has been negative in so many ways but one of the few positives to come out of it is the discovery of beautiful holiday locations across the UK.

This is known as a staycation and whilst there are many great locations up and down the UK, none quite compare to the holidays in Scotland.

With the beautiful highlands and coastal towns, you can get away from the hustle and bustle of your home life with your very own holiday home in a beautiful Scottish location.

With that, we’ve put together a short guide to staycations in Scotland and where you should visit.

1. Scotland is home to Britain’s largest waterfall named Easa’ Chual Aluinn which is a whopping three times the height of Niagara Falls.
2. The national animal of Scotland is the Unicorn
3. Europe’s oldest tree can be found in Scotland and is over 3000 years old. This Twisted Yew tree is known as Fortingall Yew and can be found in the heart of the Scottish mainland.
4. Scotland is made up of approximately 790 islands.

Where should you visit?

The Holy Cave

A must-see for any staycation in Scotland, the Holy Cave is perhaps the most famous in the country and can be found in Ayrshire along the west coast of Scotland.

This cave is associated with Saint Mungo, the patron saint and founder of the city of Glasgow and a relatively recent excavation discovered that there were three periods of occupation across many centuries in this cave.

This is a location not to be missed for history buffs and is easy to get to when you visit Glasgow.

Culzean Castle and Country Park

With over 40 buildings to explore in this country park with the likes of a castle, a farm and a play park, the Culzean Castle and Country Park is a riveting place to spend your time during your staycation and is sure to be one of the highlights of anyone’s trip.

Located near the town of Maybole, this is something you must get tickets for when you plan your Scottish staycation.

East Lothian

For the perfect blend of city, sea and countryside, you’ll want to slip this town into your staycation plans and with great transport links from Edinburgh, you’ve got no excuse to miss it.

There’s so much to do in East Lothian with magnificent walking trails like the John Muir Way or maybe kite surfing on Longniddry Beach is more up your street. Whatever activity you fancy, East Lothian can probably cater to it.
